What can I do to receive a paycheck that is rightfully owed to me?

I was working for a media company which operated as an LLC. Our CEO came into the office and said we have NO money to pay anyone. He said his investors have refused to invest any more money into his company. Us 15 employees were paid on a monthly basis and were all laid off Aug. 31. NONE of us were given our paycheck for Aug., which should have been paid on Sept. 1. I was told by my boss that if any of us were to sue, it would be pointless, because the company is an LLC; all that would happen is that our CEO's company would go bankrupt and his creditors would be paid first and us employees wouldnt get anything in the long run.
