What do Rabbis say concerning soldiers on the sabbath?

Well you are going to work on Shabbat in the military. Don't ask, expect it thats the reason many Haredi and Dati(Orthodox) Jews are exempt from service because of it interfering with Religious study. When i move to Israel in time soon i will be exempt as well for that reason. But because of Israels big(but not growing) Secular population they are the ones in the service. But i am sure if they are exempt from fasting on Yom Kippur then they are exempt from Shabbat observance!!
